NGOs challenged to enhance people participation in civic elections

COAST REGION: NON-Government Organisations (NGOs) in the Coast Region have been urged to intensify their efforts in providing civic education to encourage full participation in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for November.

Kibaha District Commissioner Mr Nickson Simon made this statement while representing Regional Commissioner Abubakar Kunenge at the National Non-Government Organisations Council (NacoNGO) meeting held at the regional headquarters in Kibaha Town.

Mr Simon emphasised that the government expects NGOs to effectively motivate and increase public awareness on the importance of voting.

“There are many individuals who do not understand why they should vote. The Government relies on you to educate them so that everyone of voting age can participate without obstacles, including lack of knowledge,” he said.
