NHIF launch door-to-door initiative in Morogoro

MOROGORO: The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) has launched a door-to-door campaign in Morogoro targeting to improve awareness and coverage especially among the general public.

NHIF Regional Manager, Mbala Shitindi said in Ifakara that the seven-day campaign involves provision of free check-up and counseling services for various diseases including diabetes, blood pressure and respiratory-related issues.

“We have decided to camp from our regional office along with some representatives from the headquarters here in Ifakara. The strategy is to get enough time to provide health and insurance education to the people,” he said.

The public healthcare insurer said the campaign will start by targeting faith groups, churches and mosques. It believed people need the knowledge to be able to subscribe to the health fund.

“We want every individual to benefit. We want everyone to be covered,” he noted.

According to the official, the services will be offered to various places including the marketplace.

Pastor Exaud Akyoo of Nayoth Divine Power Center thanked NHIF for their efforts of reaching to them and their worshippers noting that it is a good move as he believes that since after the education their people will give more importance to their health and insurance services.

Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Pastor Ezekiel Mwambugu ceased the opportunity to call upon Christians in the vicinity to take their health seriously by ensuring that they attend the and receive the education delivered by NHIF and go for the medical checkups.

“You may ignore the invitation to go to an evangelistic campaign but we shouldn’t ignore this call, it concerns our lives here on earth and our health.

Health matters are not to be ignored because if you have a health problem you will not be able to even attend church and listen to God’s word,” he said.

The Pastor added: “We know how it is not easy to acquire medical expenses, but now that we have received this grace at our doorsteps don’t let it, let us go and listen to this education and get ourselves checked.”
