NMB supports blood donation drive

NMB Bank through its Morogoro and Dodoma branches held a one-week blood donation campaign as part of its efforts to enhance national blood stocks and public health and wellbeing.

The campaign brought together the bank’s employees and some customers from the two regions where over 100 units of blood were collected.

Coordinator of the Tanzania Blood Transfusion Services, Ileme Wilson said Morogoro Referral Hospital requires between 350 to 400 units per month to save the lives of infants and mothers who give birth and accident victims.

Wilson said the referral hospital currently has a reserve of 200 units of blood, which is 200 units less than the units needed every month to save the lives of patients in need of blood.

He said the referral hospital in Morogoro uses 15 units of blood per day to cater for patients who need blood transfusion, especially infants, expectant mothers and accident victims undergoing surgery.

The NMB Mount Uluguru Branch Manager, Lillian Abraham said: “We have reached the climax of the celebration of safe blood donation, and as NMB we have participated by mobilising our employees and clients to support this noble cause.”

NMB Dodoma Branch Manager, Amos Mgusi said that the drive received an overwhelming response from the bank’s customers and employees.

Mr Mgusi said the bank also invited students from the University of Dodoma (Udom), St John’s University, College of Business College (CBE) in Dodoma and the business community to take part in the voluntary blood donation drive.
