NMB supports tourism sector growth in Arusha

ARUSHA: NMB Bank has donated 20 motorcycles worth 65m/- to Police Force in Arusha Region to beef up tourism security, creating friendly environment for the sector growth.
NMB Chief Retail Banking, Filbert Mponzi said the donation aligns with the bank’s tourism sector development strategy that seeks to boost sustainable tourism ecosystems.
“To us, Arusha is a strategic area since it’s a tourist hub. We are happy to donate 20 motorcycles today to intensify security. As a bank, we believe that when security is beefed up, the tourism sector will tremendously prosper,” Mr Mponzi said.
Mr Mponzi was optimistic that the bank’s efforts in Arusha will have a big multiplier effect on the tourism sector value chain across the country.

“Our efforts will have a trickle-down effect on the tourism sector. When the tourists finally have an unforgettable experience in terms of hospitality in Arusha, they will be willing to explore other available options such as Zanzibar,” Mr Mponzi said.
The Tanzania Local Tour Operators (TLTO) Association Chairperson, Mr Samuel Diah, during the event, said the donation would boost the growth of the tourism sector in the region.
“Indeed, this donation has come timely as ensuring the safety of both local and foreign tourists is a top priority right now. “Safety is the biggest attraction for all tourists. Together with Arusha having vast tourist attractions, we cannot lure more tourists if the region, it is not safe,” Mr Diah said.
The Arusha Regional Commissioner Paul Makonda during the event said the government has been at the forefront of marketing the country’s unique attractions and urged citizens to protect the tourist attractions.
“This is a historic event and it is indeed a gesture of giving back to the communities,” he said.
