DAR ES SALAAM: FORMER President Dr Jakaya Kikwete on Monday underscored why CCM should remain united, arguing that unity is the pillar and most important tool to enable it win in the forthcoming local government elections later this year and general election next year.

Dr Kikwete, who was also former CCM’s National Chairperson, made a statement during a meeting with CCM’s Secretary General, Ambassador Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, after visiting him at his office in Dar es Salaam, on Monday.

“The unity and solidarity of CCM members have been the secret behind CCM’s victories, and that is why we always say that our unity is our victory.

We are pleased that CCM members under the leadership of Chairperson and President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan continue to strengthen the pillar,” he said.

He expressed his gratitude to party leaders for implementing the directives of CCM National Chairperson, Dr Samia, especially on cooperation and listening to views from fellow members and citizens as well as solving their problems.

Dr Kikwete also congratulated the new secretariat of the National Executive Council (NEC) for the way it focuses on strengthening the party and the implementation of the 2020-2025 CCM Manifesto for the benefits of the people.

On his part, Ambassador Nchimbi thanked the leaders of the party and the government for the way they work to groom and raise the new leaders in terms of leadership skills and morals.

Ambassador Nchimbi said CCM will propagate the culture of honouring and listening to retired leaders, adding that for the leadership and the good work they did to serve the nation during their leadership, they serve as great treasures for the current and future generations.

Tanzania expects to hold local government elections this year while the General Elections will be conducted in 2025.

On Sunday, CCM’s NEC received the report on the implementation of the party’s election manifesto (2020- 2025) and the state of politics in the country during a meeting it held in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting commended the two Presidents, Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and Dr Hussein Mwinyi for their efforts in serving Tanzanians regardless of their political ideologies.

“The National Executive Committee has been satisfied with the implementation of the manifesto by both governments of the union under President Samia and Zanzibar under Dr Mwinyi,” the party’s Secretary for Ideology,

Publicity and Training, Mr Amos Makala pointed out.
