Over 3,000 Singida women to participate in civic polls festival

SINGIDA: OVER 3,000 women from all five districts in Singida Region are set to participate in a festival organised by the regional leadership for the objective of sensitising them on the importance of actively participating in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
Singida Regional Commissioner Ms Halima Dendego announced that the festival will take place tomorrow, at the Bombardier Grounds in Singida Municipality.
Former Speaker of the Parliament, Ms Anne Makinda, will preside over the event as Chief Guest. The festival focuses on encouraging women to actively engage in the upcoming Local Government Elections, scheduled for November 27th this year.
“Our government, under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has implemented various measures to ensure that every citizen receives accurate election information and is encouraged to participate in elections, fulfilling their constitutional rights,” Ms Dendego stated.

She added that the festival is part of the region’s initiative to reach more citizens, particularly women, youth and people with disabilities. The event will also feature a sports bonanza and various public rallies.
The Regional Commissioner emphasised that the festival offers a unique opportunity for women in the Singida Region to engage with experienced leaders like Ms Makinda, allowing them to learn about ‘Women and Leadership’ and ‘The Use of Statistics in Decision-Making and Development Planning.’
The aim of gathering women champions from ward, street and village levels is to inform and motivate them to participate in the Local Government Elections, which play a crucial role in selecting leaders responsible for managing their daily lives.
According to the 2022 Population and Housing Census, Singida Region has over two million residents, half of whom are expected to participate in the Local Government Elections on November 27.
