Pageant Odemba to ‘plough back’ at Mwendapole School

COAST REGION: Former Miss Earth Tanzania, Miriam Odemba plans to embark on a project of building and repairing toilets at Mwendapole Primary School in Coastal Region to benefit over 1,100 children through her ‘Miriam Odemba Foundation’.
According to the former Miss Tanzania, the construction of the toilets will begin effectively in June.
In an exclusive interview with a ‘Daily News’ the beauty pageant stated that the move is one of her strategies in supporting the government’s efforts in creating a conducive environment, where all students countrywide will be comfortable in their studies.

She added: “This forms part of my plough back to the community as the government puts a lot of effort in ensuring that students go to school and study in a good environment, I believe that with this support, in one way or another, it will reduce the number of students who do not go to school because of poor infrastructure.”
She further said: “What we want is to see that students fall in love with their schools and increase the number of passes.”
Likewise, Miss Odemba said that the foundation is also committed to the protection of female students, especially by fighting against gender-based violence in collaboration with other stakeholders Elaborating, Miss Miriam said that the foundation has managed to distribute sanitary pads to about 700 female students at the Kibamba Primary School.
“We embarked on providing gender education and self-awareness to female students and by now, the foundations have done a lot in many projects and we also have other bigger schemes in the pipeline,” she said.
The Tanzanian model and beauty pageant titleholder started her modeling career at an early age and gained fame when she won the Miss Temeke title in 1997.
The following year at 15, she took part at the Miss East Africa 1998 and in the modeling competition M-Net Face of Africa 1998, she became a runner up.
She later participated at Elite Model Look 1999 contest and Miss Earth 2008 where she was crowned as Miss Earth – Air 2008.
