Pamoja ‘AFCON’ Bid to boost Tanzania’s tourism sector

President Samia Suluhu Hassan says the ‘Pamoja Bid’ initiative to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals will boost tourism in the country.

Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda have teamed up and presented a bid to jointly stage the biggest football showpiece on the continent.

A statement signed by the Director of Presidential Communications, Zuhura Yunus on Wednesday afternoon indicates that the competition is watched by more than one billion people in Africa and the whole world at large.

“The president says the contest will bring in people with big influence in the world as such, it will stimulate the growth of different economic activities leading to creation of jobs, capital to traders and revenue to the government,” reads part of the statement.

It also reveals that the Government through the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports in cooperation with the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has researched and come out with a plan on how best to prepare for staging of the big event.

If the three countries successfully win the opportunity to host the AFCON finals, it will be the first time to be embraced in the East Africa territory.
