PM calls on youths to be responsible citizens

MWANZA: PRIME Minister Kasim Majaliwa has urged Tanzanian youths to actively engage in productive activities and strive to become responsible citizens who contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
Speaking during the launching of the 2024 Youth National Week in Mwanza yesterday, the Premier called upon young people to seize the opportunities presented by digital technologies and make good use of it for the development of the nation.
The 2024 Youth National Week is themed “Proper Utilisation of Digital Opportunities for Sustainable Development.”
He urged the young people to avoid misusing digital platforms by spreading hate speech that can disrupt peace and foster division within the Tanzanian society.
Moreover, the Prime Minister highlighted the need for youths to uphold moral standards that align with national values and norms.
He called on both the government and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working with youths to clarify their motives and ensure they contribute positively to the country’s development.
“I urged everyone to engage in the proper use of digital tools for sustainable development, young people must be part of these changes,” said Mr. Majaliwa.
The Premier added that the government is committed to improving environment for youths to engage in various economic activities. He highlighted programmes such as local content initiatives, the Building Better Tomorrow (BBT) and the revision of the National Youth Development Policy of 2017, —all aimed at developing the youth.
Furthermore, the Premier announced the establishment of a special fund for Art and Culture, with approximately 4.2bn/- being allocated to support youths and promote self-employment.
He also encouraged young people to take advantage of the government’s 10 per cent loan initiative that is set to resume this month and invest in their ventures and foster their personal development.

Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youths, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Mr Ridhiwani Kikwete said that the celebrations aim to reassure Tanzanian youth of the government’s support in various areas.
Zanzibar’s Minister for Information, Youths, Culture and Sports, Tabia Mwita, expressed her commitment to overseeing and implementing all government directives to ensure that all youths can become self-employed and contribute to their personal income, which in turn supports the national economy.
