PM underscores Mkono’s legacy

PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said the government recognises and values big contribution from former Butiama Member of Parliament, advocate Nimrod Mkono who died April 18 in US where he was receiving  treatment.

Mr Majaliwa noted that the government will continue keeping Mkono’s legacy over his good work.

“The government has lost an important person and  it will continue to  recognise his contributions and honour all good things he did during his lifetime. Every citizen with his or her faith will keep on praying for him,” the PM stated.

Mr Majaliwa stated this yesterday in Dar es Salaam when representing President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan at an event to pay last respects to the departed former politician.

The premier noted that during his lifetime the late advocate Mkono was a good servant and advisor to the government, particularly in the legal matters where through the National Assembly, he advised how to craft good laws and their regulations.

He further added that apart from his big contribution in legal matters, the late Mkono helped the government in the construction and repairs of schools and health infrastructures using his own money.

On his part, Dr Harrison Mwakyembe, former MP for Kyela constituency said advocate Mkono was himself an institution, because of his creativity in boosting the growth of legal services and he has left legacy.

Reading the biography of the late Mkono, his younger brother Shadrack Mkono informed the public that  his brother was born on August 18, 1943 at the Busegwe village and will be buried today (May 29) at Kigori village, Butiama District, Mara Region.

Equally, he narrated the history of his late brother and how he travelled to Florida in the US in 2018 for treatment after developing Alzheimer’s disease.

The late Mkono was a member of the ruling CCM party and legislator for Musoma Rural constituency from 2000 to 2015, and later Butiama from 2015 to 2020.

During his lifetime, he was also a practicing advocate at Mkono and Advocates.

After developing health complications, Mr Mkono did not contest to defend his seat in the 2020 elections.

Besides politics, the late Mkono was also a philanthropist who engaged in various developmental initiatives in the education and health sectors.
