Police arrest rowdy Dar resident for assault

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Police Special Zone have arrested a resident of Salasala in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam Region Derick Junior, 36, on charges of assault and threatening individuals with a weapon.
In a statement issued yesterday, the Special Zone Police Commander Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Muliro Jumanne Muliro detailed that the incident occurred last Sunday at 12:30 am at the Masaki ‘1245 Night Club’ in Kinondoni.
The suspect allegedly assaulted Julian Bujuru by striking him with the buttstock of a pistol, causing injuries to his eye and nose.
The police statement followed the videos on social media that went viral yesterday, showing a man threatening people with a weapon—an act deemed unacceptable and illegal. The footages also show the same man attacking a fellow, before hitting him with a buttstock.
SACP Muliro said that the injured individual is recovering and receiving appropriate medical treatment.
He added that the police, in collaboration with the National Prosecution Office, are finalising legal procedures to ensure the suspect is brought to justice promptly.
“The Police Force urges the public that it will not hesitate to take action against anyone found in possession of a weapon who engages in activities that violate laws, regulations and procedures related to weapon ownership,” the statement emphasised.
