Police gun down suspected armed bandit, recover stolen goods

KAGERA: POLICE in Kagera Region have shot and killed a suspected armed robber during a robbery incident in Karagwe District, and recovered various belongings that were stolen in different areas.
Kagera Regional Police Commander, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Blasius Chatanda, told reporters yesterday that on August 9 this year, around 1 a.m., a group of seven suspected armed bandits stormed two shops located at Omurushaka trading centre in Karagwe District.
“The bandits managed to steal about 11m/- from the two cash transfer shops. Police detectives quickly arrived at the scene and critically injured one of the suspected bandits, who died on the way to the hospital,” he said.

SACP Chatanda further explained that between June and August of this year, police conducted an operation along Lake Victoria and were able to recover 12 engine boats and six motorcycles.
“I urge citizens who lost their properties to report to the Bukoba Central Police Station to identify and recover their belongings,” he said.
He also strongly warned bandits that Kagera is not a safe place for them to commit criminal acts.
