President Samia: Changes are for reforms, not punishment

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has said the recent minor reshuffle in her cabinet eclipsed by the appointment of new ministers, and other leaders meant to steer reforms in the government and not a punishment.

Speaking shortly after administering oaths of the Deputy Prime Minister, ministers, deputy ministers and other leaders at Tunguu State Lodge in Zanzibar on Friday, the Head of State reminded the appointees to serve people diligently since they merely “servants of people.”

“This is not a punishment; the adjustment is for improvement. Hence, go and serve…you are merely servants…we are servants of people.

“Good relationships are vital, be calm, serve people and don’t boost yourself,” President Samia advised leaders who took their oaths today.

On the other hand, Vice President Dr Philip Mpango urged the newly appointed leaders to discharge their duties under the Reconciliation, Resilience, Reforms and Rebuilding (4Rs) philosophy to address various challenges in both Mainland and Isles.

He tasked a new Minister for Land, Housing and Settlements Development Mr Jerry Silaa to ensure all land conflicts across the country are addressed.

VP said conflicts between wananchi and national reserves should also be resolved as he directed Ministers responsible for Naturals Resources and Tourism and Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to work on the said challenge.

On his part, President of Zanzibar Dr Hussein Mwinyi congratulated the appointees saying his government will cooperate with them to strengthen the Union.
