President Samia Congratulates Dr Ndugulile  

DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Dr. Faustine Ndugulile who has been elected as the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director for Africa.

Dr. Ndugulile, who also serves as the Kigamboni Member of Parliament, was unanimously elected in Brazzaville, Congo, on Tuesday, ahead of other candidates from Senegal, Rwanda, and Niger.

Following the election, President Samia took to social media to congratulate the Tanzanian for making his country proud.

“Heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Faustine Engelbert Ndugulile for being elected the World Health Organization Regional Director for Africa. You have made our country proud, and our continent will greatly benefit from your work. I am confident that your expertise and experience in the health sector will enable Africa to have a vital voice on the global stage in tackling health challenges for millions of our people across the continent,” President Samia posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier, Dr. Ndugulile promised that if elected, he would work to ensure that people across the continent have access to quality health services without obstacles. He made this promise during the 74th General Assembly of the WHO, held in Brazzaville, Congo, on Tuesday.

Other major priorities he mentioned include improving the preparedness of African countries for dealing with epidemics, strengthening accountability within the WHO’s African region, and enhancing communication between member countries on health matters.

The election for the WHO’s Regional Director took place today, involving ministers responsible for health issues in Africa under the World Health Organization.
