President Samia makes swift appointments

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Omar Issa the new Chancellor of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST).

Mr Issa was Tanesco’s Board Chairman and is taking over from the former Vice President Dr Ghalib Bilal whose tenure comes to an end.

The statement issued by the Director of Presidential Communications Zuhura Yunus, said President Samia also named Prof Abel Makubi as Executive Director of Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (MOI).

He replaces Dr Respicious Boniface whose tenure comes to an end.

The President also appointed Dr Abdulhamid Mzee as the new Chancellor at National Defense College (NDC). Dr Mzee was a retired Chief Secretary in the revolutionary government of Zanzibar. He is taking over from Dr Martern Lumbanga whose tenure ended.

In another development, President Samia appointed Dr Edwin Mbede to chair NMB Bank Plc for a second term.

The appointment is effective from June 6 this year.
