Remote areas to get schools, House told

DODOMA: THE government has expressed its commitment to keep on with the construction of schools in hard to reach areas as well as in places, which do not have public schools to bring the services closer to community.

The assurance was given here yesterday by the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s office, Regional Administration and Local government, Ms Zainab Katimba when answering a question posed by Mr Kasalali Mgeni (Sumve-CCM).

The MP wanted to know when the government will construct schools in hard to reach areas so that children can get education.

Mr Mgeni also wanted to hear the government’s commitment on when it will construct a secondary school in Malya ward. He said the area has a big number of children who walk long distance to attend secondary education.

Responding, the Deputy Minister Katimba said the government through the SEQUIP programme for improvement of secondary education is going on with the construction of secondary schools in congested and wards which do not have the schools including Malya ward. In another development, councils have been advised to set budgets for the construction of business centres in their respective areas.

She said the councils are also invited to prepare business plan and present them to get construction fund. However, only councils with a clean financial report for three consecutive years will qualify for the strategic projects funding.

“Only district or municipal councils that have a clean financial report for three years will qualify for write ups to access the funding for strategic projects,” said the Deputy Minister.

She responding to a main question posed by Anton Mwantona (Rungwe-CCM) who wanted to know when the construction of shopping centre will kick off at Kiwira Ward in Rungwe region.

Responding, she said, the government is aware of the importance of having a state of the art market at Kiwira for Rungwe residents for their improved socio-economic welfare.

A number of interventions, she said, have been taken to facilitate the construction of the market whereas so far feasibility study detailed designs have already been completed.
