Samia praised for strengthening business

DAR ES SALAAM: STAKEHOLDERS in the transportation sector have hailed President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the great work of strengthening business in the country.

The Dakimp International Ltd Chief Executive Officer, Ally Said Sleyyum said that the business environment is improving and thus becoming a catalyst for economic growth.

“For a long time, I have been in business activities, especially in the transportation sector, I have seen great changes,” said Mr Sleyyum.

He said the launch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) electric train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma will greatly help the increase of traders from the Great Lakes region.

Stakeholders in the transportation sector have praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her significant efforts in strengthening business in the country.

Dakimp International Ltd Chief Executive Officer Ally Said Sleyyum, noted that the improving business environment is becoming a catalyst for economic growth.

“I have been involved in business activities, especially in the transportation sector, for a long time and have witnessed great changes,” said Mr Sleyyum.

He added that the launch of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) electric train from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma will significantly boost the number of traders from the Great Lakes region.

“Our customers from the Great Lakes States will now have an opportunity to spend short time in transportation of their goods by using SGR,” said Mr Sleyyum whose company has been providing and transporting cargo in the Port of Dar es Salaam.

In addition, he said that the construction of roads and bridges in various regions in the country will also help in economic growth.

According to him, the government has attained several achievements, that in the next short period of time, Tanzania will be a business leader in the great lakes’ region.

The CEO noted that, the enabling environment created by the government has opened more commercial doors, especially in the removal of the bureaucracy and tyranny for tax officials.

“In the past, the situation was different, you owe taxes by threats, today there are no such things, TRA and we taxpayers negotiate and pay taxes without threats,” he explained.

Mr Sleyyum said tax is the development basin, so it is important that everyone is responsible for paying tax for the nation’s development.

He explained that the construction of big projects such as railways, roads, electricity and others, is highly dependent on income from tax payments.

“At the moment we do not have a dispute with TRA, we are collaborating with them well, the authority has adjusted a lot,” said Sleyyum.

In another step, the businessmen have called on Tanzanians to publicise it well abroad, especially the economic diplomacy policy to attract more foreign investors.

“When we promote our country well, we clearing and forwarding people will get more jobs” said CEO, Sleyyum.
