Samia tasks Planning Commission to enhance project quality

DODOMA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has directed the Planning Commission to conduct a thorough evaluation of various ongoing projects to ensure they yield significant benefits for citizens and utilize limited resources effectively.

The president emphasized the significance of utilising statistics and research in the decisionmaking process within the commission, which is backed by the Executive Secretary-led by the Planning Secretariat.

Dr Samia issued the directives yesterday in Dodoma during the inaugural session of the Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission, established under the Planning Commission Act No. 1 of 2023, is tasked to manage the economy and oversee the planning and implementation of Tanzania’s development plans.

This newly formed body aims at integrating and coordinating development efforts across the nation.

Samia officiated the swearingin of the commission’s six members: Minister for Finance Dr Mwigulu Nchemba, Minister for Investment Professor Kitila Mkumbo, Mr Omar Issa, Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, Ambassador Ami Mpungwe, and Ambassador Asha-Rose Migiro.

President Samia expressed confidence in the commission’s ability to meet the high expectations of Tanzanians, by creating unified and comprehensive de- velopment plans.

With a wealth of experience and expertise, these commission members are expected to steer the commission towards realising its goals.

“The commission carries a great responsibility, and I believe it will satisfy the thirst and expectations of Tanzanians in having joint plans and integrated development,” she stated.

The commission’s duties include preparing a Strategic Plan that aligns its responsibilities with the National Development Vision.

It is also expected to provide the government with strategic advice on development planning.
