Samia to grace records managers, secretaries meeting

PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to officiate at an annual meeting for records managers and personal secretaries slated for next week in Zanzibar.

The Minister of State in the President’s Office, Public Service Management and Good Governance, George Simbachawene, told reporters here yesterday the annual meeting by Records and Archives Management Professionals Association (TRAMPA) and Tanzania Personal Secretaries Association (TAPSEA) follows President Samia directive at the 10th TRAMPA Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Arusha on November, last year.

At the event in Arusha, the Head of State asked the ministry responsible to convene a joint meeting for record keepers and personal secretaries to be trained on various crucial issues especially on confidentiality and privacy requirements.

She directed that the meeting be held in Zanzibar.

President Samia said the government was contemplating to have both record keepers and the personal secretaries take oath before assuming duties.

Yesterday, Mr Simbachawene said that among other issues, participants of the meeting will take oath to keep secrets.

According to the minister, the meeting is expected to take place at the Mao Zedong Hall in Mjini Magharibi, Zanzibar from May 22 to 27 and that the guest of honor during the opening of the meeting is expected to be President Samia.

Mr Simbachawene said that the meeting is expected to convene record keepers and the personal secretaries from both the public and private sector who will discuss how best their welfare can be improved as well as taking oaths of keeping secrets.

“The meeting will be conducted under the theme: Discipline, integrity and secret keeping at work place are key for professional development,’’ said Mr Simbachawene insisting that the theme was targeting to remind participants on the importance of keeping secrets.

He asked employers in the public sector to allow their staff who are members of the two associations to travel to Zanzibar to participate at the meeting and ensure that they clear their travel costs.

He said that about 8,000 participants were expected at the meeting, adding that arrangements had already been made to ensure that accommodation and transport to the venue were available.
