Simba Coach shifts focus to CAF

DAR ES SALAAM: FOLLOWING two successive Premier League victories with a clean sheet, Simba SC’s coach Fadlu Davids has announced a shift in focus towards their CAF Confederation Cup (CAF CC) campaign.

Simba SC is set to face Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli in the first leg of their CAF CC tie, scheduled between September 13 and 15 in Libya.

The return leg will take place in Dar es Salaam between September 20 and 22. The aggregate winner of these two-legged matches will advance to the Confederation Cup group stage.

Al Ahly Tripoli secured their spot in the second preliminary round by defeating Uhamiaji of Zanzibar with a commanding 5-1 aggregate victory.

Speaking after Simba SC’s commanding 4-0 win over Fountain Gate at KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam, Davids emphasised the team’s shift in focus.

“Following our recent league victories, our attention is now fully on the Confederation Cup.

We aim to perform well and advance further in the competition,” said Davids.

He praised his players for their effective execution of the game plan, contributing to their impressive win. “It was a strong performance, particularly in midfield.

While there is still room for improvement, we are progressing well,” he noted.

Fountain Gate’s coach Mohamed Muya acknowledged Simba SC’s superior quality, attributing their victory to the individual brilliance of Simba’s players.

“Simba’s investment in high-quality players has clearly paid off.

Our domestic players competed well, but the individual quality of Simba’s squad made the difference today.”

Muya remained optimistic about his team’s future, stating, “While this match was a setback, we have many league games ahead and hope to strengthen as the season progresses.”

Simba SC has yet to concede a league goal this season, having scored seven goals in their last two matches—defeating Tabora United 3-0 before their win over Fountain Gate.

Their next league match will be against Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on September 22, marking their first away game of the campaign.
