Somji shines with hole-in-one at Uganda Ladies Open

ENTEBBE UGANDA: TANZANIA golfer Aalaa Somji lit up the Uganda Ladies Open with a remarkable hole-in-one feat during yesterday’s Uganda Ladies Open second round at Entebbe Golf Club course in Entebbe.
From Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), the visitor Somji was all smiles after posting the remarkable feat at the annual tournament set to wind up today.
The second round lighted with the Somji hole-in-one occurred at par-3-hole number 6.
It made her forget the day straggling, she carded 83 gross to drop to 9th position from shared 5th of the first round and returned 79 strokes.
“I am very happy for this achievement, I tee off with iron-9 at tee-box with Titleist Pro V19 golf ball,” she described.
In golf, a hole-in-one occurs when a ball is hit from a tee to start a hole finish in the cup.
Holes-in-one most commonly occur on par 3 holes, the shortest distance holes on a standard-size golf course.
While well-known outside golf and often requiring a well-hit shot and significant power, holes in one need also a significant element of luck.
On the other hand, the second round saw a twist of the leader board as host Martha Babirye, leapfrogged Tanzanian Hawa Wanyeche at the top to lead by a shot in a tough battle.

Babirye was a shot behind overnight leaders Wanyeche after the first round with 75 gross carded 77 yesterday to aggregate 152 over two rounds in the 54 holes three-day showdown.
Wanyeche from Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club of Dar es Salaam who took the lead after the first round with 74 strokes on Thursday, found the going tough yesterday after returning 80 gross to duo-share 3rd with countrymate Madina Iddi each carded a total 154 strokes.
Iddi, also from AGC and fresh from winning the UGC Ladies Open at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala, returned 76 yesterday to jump from fourth place and add the 78 first-round score.
However, AGC’s Neema Olomi ensured it is a fairy tale for Tanzanian golfers to maintain her second place shot drift to second round leader Babirye’s aggregate 153 (76,77) to make today’s final round more interesting, only two points separate the top four.
Vicky Elias from TPDF Lugalo carded 82 strokes yesterday from Thursday 79 to aggregate 161 and distance herself from pole position settled at 7th with 9 shots far from a leader.
