Speaker Tulia advocates clean energy adoption for food vendors

MBEYA: SPEAKER of the National Assembly, Dr Tulia Ackson, has encouraged food vendors and citizens to adopt the use of clean energy for cooking to help protect the environment and save time for economic activities.
She emphasized that the time has come to abandon the use of firewood and charcoal.
Dr Ackson, who is Member of Parliament for Mbeya City and president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), made these remarks on Monday this week while engaging with stakeholders from Oryx Gas Company, which promotes clean cooking energy.
She visited a restaurant in Uyole, Mbeya City, where she personally prepared food using gas to demonstrate to food vendors the benefits of cooking with clean energy.
While at the restaurant, the Speaker, using an Oryx stove, highlighted that her goal was to encourage Tanzanians to use clean cooking energy as part of supporting President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s campaign to promote the use of clean energy instead of charcoal and firewood.

On his part, Mr Peter Ndomba, Project Manager for Clean Cooking Energy at Oryx Gas Company, stated that they have been assisting various groups, including food vendors, to access clean cooking energy.
Since the start of the clean energy promotion campaign, they have distributed over 70,000 gas cylinders and stoves.
“Oryx is committed to supporting President Samia’s vision of ensuring that, within 10 years, 80 per cent of Tanzanians use clean cooking energy. Our company has embraced this agenda and is acting on it,” said Mr Ndomba.
He added that their collaboration with Dr Ackson, through the Tulia Trust, has been instrumental in advancing these clean energy efforts.
