Stakeholders urged to enhance coffee output

KILIMANJARO: ROMBO District Commissioner Mr Raymond Mwangwala has urged coffee stakeholders to use the Kahawa Festival as a platform to adopt techniques that improve coffee quality and increase yields.

He emphasised that focusing on education and collaboration during the festival providing participants with valuable insights to enhance their practices.

“This proactive approach aims not only to boost individual revenues but also to strengthen the entire coffee sector, contributing to sustainable economic growth in the region,” he stated.

Mr Mwangwala, representing the Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner at the event, commended the festival’s organising committee and all stakeholders for their contributions to its success, which he said would significantly increase local coffee consumption.

He noted that the collective effort was essential for addressing challenges in the coffee industry, such as improving production techniques and enhancing product quality.

“Engaging local communities also ensures equitable distribution of the benefits of coffee production, supporting livelihoods and creating a sustainable economic framework,” he added.

Embracing technology and innovative farming methods will enable farmers to optimise their output, ultimately benefiting the local economy and improving the livelihoods of communities reliant on coffee production.

During the festival, the Chairman of the Kahawa Festival organising committee, Mr Denis Mahulu, highlighted the event’s importance in promoting the coffee sector, noting its continued growth each year.

He also mentioned the festival’s goal to raise local consumption from the current 7 per cent to 10 per cent within the next two to three years.
