Stars’ impressive run cherishes SBL backing

SERENGETI Breweries Limited (SBL) has lauded the Taifa Stars’ win over Niger, stressing it brings honour to the nation and hopes they qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.

The SBL stressed it is a privilege to be part of the success; for stakeholders have faith in the teams’ effort and success.

Taifa Stars need an away draw with Algeria to qualify for the AFCON finals.

Commenting on the Taifa Stars’ win, the firm’s Managing Director, Obinna Anyalebechi, who attended the nail-biting tournament against Niger at Benjamin Mkapa stadium, said seeing the victory in person was not only thrilling but also encouraging for SBL as it solidifies that the firm’s financial support towards the team was effectively used and produced the desired goal.

Realising the importance for the national team to have financial security and focus on football, SBL injected a whopping 5.1bn/- to sponsor Taifa Stars from 2017 when the beer manufacturer started supporting the Tanzanian national team, he added.

“Supporting the national football team, Taifa Stars, is an initiative geared towards supporting the development of football in the country, and when we see the team performs to this level where they are so close to qualifying for the continental Championship, AFCON, it’s encouraging and SBL as the sole sponsor of this team, we couldn’t be prouder.

“At this point, we are quite upbeat about their performance, and we are proud to have supported this team and football.”

The victory has earned Taifa Stars seven points, making the team dominate the second place in the Group F standings.

The win was received with cheer and excitement by football fans across the country, with high hopes of seeing the team qualify for next year’s AFCON finals.

Football commentators commended the team for a good game, with the team’s Head Coach, Adel Amrouche, applauding the team for putting in excellent work during the match.

“We need a victory, and what my players have done is commendable because it was not an easy match because Niger also played well. Our focus is now for the last match against Algeria, slated for September this year,” said Amrouche.
