TANROADS finalises plans for major road projects in Arusha

ARUSHA: THE Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) is finalising designs to upgrade the Arusha-Tengeru Road to asphalt standards, covering a distance of 10.1 km.

Chief Executive Officer of TANROADS, Eng Mohamed Besta, revealed this during the 17th Joint Transport Sector Review in Arusha.

Eng Besta mentioned that other road sections, including the Arusha-Moshi-Holili Road, are part of the ongoing projects.

The second phase will see a four-lane upgrade beginning from Tengeru to Usa River, which covers a total of 11 Kilometres.

Significantly, a large bridge is planned at Kikafu, a high-accident zone, with the intention of situating it slightly outside Kikafu town to reduce frequent accidents.

In an earlier address, TANROADS Arusha Regional Manager, Eng Reginald Massawe, spoke on behalf of the agency’s CEO, stating that TANROADS manages a road network of 37,225.72 km.

Eng Massawe added that TANROADS is planning to build a new airport at Lake Manyara. The project, prompted by increased tourism, will allow for 24-hour operations and resilience against the rainy season, benefitting the tourism sector in the Arusha region.
