Tanzania Prepares for Inaugural SGR Golf Tour

DAR ES SALAAM: PLANS are underway for the first-ever SGR Golf Tour, a new tournament aimed at celebrating Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her significant contributions to sports development in the country.
Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Sports, and the Ministry of Information, Communication and Information Technology, the tournament will span three regions: Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Dodoma.
Minister for Sports, Damas Ndumbaro, announced these developments during the Vodacom Lugalo Open at the Tanzania People’s Defence Forces (TPDF) Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam.
He emphasised the tournament’s significance in honouring President Samia’s achievements in fostering a culture of sports excellence in Tanzania.
“President Saia has made remarkable strides in sports development, leading to Tanzania’s consistent success in international competitions. This tournament is our tribute to her visionary leadership,” said Minister Ndumbaro.
The SGR Golf Tour will see golfers competing across three different courses, beginning in Dar es Salaam and then progressing to Morogoro, facilitated by the SGR transport system. The tournament will culminate in Dodoma, showcasing the synergy between sports and infrastructure development.
“We intend to collaborate closely with the Minister for Works and Transport, Makame Mbarawa, to ensure the seamless integration of SGR transport in promoting sports, including golf,” added Minister Ndumbaro.
He also praised the national golf teams, highlighting the achievements of the women’s team on the international stage and outlining plans for further support and development of golf talent in Tanzania.

“I congratulate Vodacom Tanzania for showing commitment to the game, I call on other telecommunications companies to chip in golf. I will be happy to see them doing so,” said Minister Nnauye
The SGR Golf Tour promises to be a milestone event, showcasing Tanzania’s commitment to sports excellence and infrastructure development under President Samia’s leadership.
Additionally, he commended TGU and TLGU for their excellent work in creating the game that enabled the TPDF men’s golf team to place seventh and the women’s team to finish third overall in the just concluded 15th World Military Golf Championships in Zimbabwe, which were hosted by the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
