Tanzania, Sweden mark 50 years of Scania in TZ market

THE government is considering a possibility of introducing a subsidy programme to encourage more people to buy vehicles that use natural gas.
Minister for Works, Transport and Communication, Professor Makame Mbarawa said that in Dar es Salaam recently in an event for Scania marking half a century since the company entered the Tanzanian market.
“I congratulate Scania and all its employees for their great work in strengthening the relations between our countries. This shows the strength of cooperation. I urge them to continue focusing on quality of their work. I am particularly impressed by these natural gas-powered vehicles that will reduce operating costs and air pollution,” said Prof Mbarawa.
He noted that cooperation between these countries has enabled innovation and significant development for many years.
The Swedish Ambassador to Tanzania, Charlotta Ozaki Macias, speaking at the commemoration event held in Dar es Salaam, congratulated Scania, saying it is unique for a company to last for 50 years in the Tanzanian market.
“I congratulate Scania for reaching 50 years in the country and it is unique to last in the market for all these years. Sweden and Tanzania have a long history and great working relationships in many areas of development such as democracy, human rights, infrastructure, and so on,” she said.
”One of my goals as an ambassador is to see increased trade and investment between our two nations, and I believe that Scania has an important role to play in this cooperation in the area of ensuring that Tanzania moves towards a green economy,” she said.
