Tanzania triumphs over Rwanda by 59 runs

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA defeated Rwanda by 59 runs at the University of Dar es Salaam ground yesterday, securing their place in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Division 2 Qualifier final.

Tanzania will now face Sierra Leone, who overcame Nigeria by six wickets in their semi-final match at Gymkhana Oval in Dar es Salaam.

With the home crowd cheering them on, Tanzania won the toss and chose to bat, posting 164 runs in their allotted overs.

Rwanda, in response, managed 105 runs in 42 overs, falling short despite a determined effort. The match was a showcase of quality cricket, with standout performances from both sides.

Tanzanian bowlers delivered key wickets, while batsmen provided exciting moments with boundaries and sixes.

Khalidy Juma was instrumental in Tanzania’s victory, taking three crucial wickets, dismissing Chris Namuhoranye, Tshiama Mukeba, and Theoneste Hakuziyaremye.

Other notable bowlers included Laksh Bakrania, Augustine Mwamele and Hamza Onai, each with two wickets and Azhaar Premji with one.

On the batting front, Darpan Jobanputra made a significant contribution with 56 runs off 132 balls, accounting for 34.15 per cent of Tanzania’s total score.

This victory marks Tanzania’s fourth consecutive win in the tournament, following previous triumphs over Ghana, Nigeria, and Mozambique.

Their strong performance solidified their top position in Group B with six points.

In the third-place playoff, Nigeria will face Rwanda, concluding the tournament’s competitive matches.
