Tanzanian footballer, Bocco, wins 200m/- lawsuit against betting firm

DAR ES SALAAM: The High Court of Tanzania has ruled that Tanzania and Simba striker John Bocco should be paid 200m/- by a betting company, Princes Leisure, for using his photo on their advertisement.
The ruling was made on August 31st, 2023, by judge Irvin Mugeta.
Initially, Bocco requested the court to rule that the company should pay him a total of 1bn/- as compensation for using his photo without his consent plus paying him 25m/- as royalty for the whole period it was used.
“The entertainment of NBC continues today with three matches. The big one is Simba who will be visitors to the Ruvu Shooting in Mwanza at CCM Kirumba. Money time is back,” reads the advertisement which was shared within and outside the country.
Through the case, Bocco was represented by two lawyers Innocent Michael and Gadi Kabele who claimed that the use of his photo meant he had terminated his contract with Simba and that the club was about to take disciplinary action on him.
