The return of Professor Kabudi

TANZANIA: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan, through Chief Secretary Dr. Moses Kusiluka, announced a minor cabinet reshuffle on Wednesday that saw two experienced politicians returning to the cabinet.
Professor Palamagamba Kabudi, who was initially dropped from the cabinet in 2022, returned as the Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, a position he previously held from 2017 to 2019.
Who is Kabudi?
Prof. Palamagamba John Aidan Mwaluko Kabudi was born on February 24, 1956, in Singida, Tanzania.
Education
Prof. Kabudi’s academic journey began at Kilimatinde Primary School in 1964, but he completed his primary education at Mvumi Mission Primary School.
In 1971, he joined Tosamaganga Secondary School, successfully completing that level in 1974.
He then attended Milambo Secondary School for advanced studies, graduating in 1976.
In 1980, he joined the University of Dar es Salaam, where he pursued an LLB, graduating in 1983.
He continued to advance his career at the same institution from 1984 to 1986, earning an LLM.
He later attended Freie Universität Berlin, where he obtained a Juris Doctor degree.

Employment History
The professor began his career as a journalist with Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) newspapers from 1978 to 1983.
From 1983 to 1986, he served as a tutorial assistant at the University of Dar es Salaam.
He then became an assistant lecturer at the same university from 1986 to 1990.
In 1990, he became a lecturer, and by 1999, he was promoted to senior lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam.
He became an associate professor in 2006 and eventually a full professor.
During the fifth-phase government under then-President John Magufuli, Prof. Kabudi was named a Member of Parliament and later a Minister.
Political Experience
Professor Kabudi first joined the Magufuli cabinet as the Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs in 2017.
After some years in active politics, he contested in the Kilosa Constituency in 2020 and won the election.
In 2019, he was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
