TIC, Airtel ink MoU to facilitate investment

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Investment Centre (TIC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Airtel Tanzania as the binding framework for the two entities to collaborate in facilitating investment in the country.

The MoU covers two years of collaboration in which the TIC and Airtel Tanzania will cooperate in providing services to domestic and foreign investors.

The partnership allows investors to easily pay the necessary TIC’s related costs for registration through Airtel Money.

Speaking during the signing ceremony on Friday in Dar es Salaam, TIC’s Executive Director Mr Gilead Teri said the partnership between the two entities is a continuation of the government to create favourable environment to all investors.

He said the Airtel involvement will enhance the TIC’s reach by leveraging the telecom company’s Information Communication Technology (ICT) services.

“Over the two next years, TIC will leverage Airtel’s technology to positively facilitate investments in our country,’’

He said the TIC’s headquarter office will use Airtel’s ICT infrastructure to improve connectivity and communication with its zonal offices in the country.

More significantly, he said the collaboration will boost TIC online service through the centre’s Electronic Investment Window under the One Stop Facilitation Centre, which can be accessed by investors wherever there in the world.

Going forward, Mr Teri said TIC is committed on achieving fully digitalisation by 2028.

For his part, Airtel Tanzania’s Managing Director, Mr Dinesh Balsingh said the partnership will expedite the TIC’s transition to digital service delivery thereby promoting seamless interaction with investors.

“This collaboration comes after the activation of the 2Africa Subsea Cable which has the capacity to revolutionize the technology sector,” he said.

Mr Balsingh said he was optimistic that the collaboration is set to attract more investors in Tanzania who will be registered by TIC.

In another development, Mr Balsingh said the cable will position Tanzania as a digital hub while fostering engagements between TIC and potential investors globally.
