TLS Presidential Election: Here’s Aspirants’ to-do list

DAR ES SALAAM: As the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) prepares to hold its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dodoma over three consecutive days, starting tomorrow, Daily News highlights key issues that have been made top agenda items by the six presidential candidates.
The candidates for the presidency are advocates Sweetbert Nkuba, Paul Kaunda, Revocatus Kuuli, Emmanuel Muga, Ibrahim Bendera, and Boniface Mwabukusi.
Sweetbert Nkuba
Advocate Sweetbert Nkuba, among the six contestants vying for the TLS presidency, has outlined his top five priorities:
1. Uniting TLS members and prioritizing their economic interests.
2. Developing a gender policy for TLS and passionately defending the legal profession.
3. Improving legal and technological infrastructure within TLS.
4. Advocating for increased investment in digital systems to facilitate access to information and legal services.
5. Skills development through training.
Paul Kaunda
Advocate Paul Kaunda’s focus includes:
1. Protecting and uplifting young lawyers by increasing their value and respect.
2. Developing a Lawyer App to help members easily find clients and receive appropriate payments under the lawyer fee law, similar to Uber.
3. Cooperating with the Attorney General on drafting regulations to protect and honor lawyers in their duties at courts, police, and other institutions.
4. Collaborating with the Chief Justice of Tanzania to establish the High Court of Tanzania Technology Registry to address emerging technology-related issues, including artificial intelligence (AI).
5. Uniting junior and experienced lawyers.
Revocatus Kuuli
Advocate Revocatus Kuuli emphasizes:
1. The importance of the rule of law, separation of powers, freedom of expression, and democracy through free and fair elections.
2. Upholding the strength of the society.

Emmanuel Muga
Advocate Emmanuel Muga’s priorities include:
1. Developing a strategic plan that aligns with current times, focusing on training and ethical standards for lawyers.
2. Strengthening governance by forming capable committees to ensure TLS operates legally and avoids haphazard activities.
Boniface Mwabukusi
Advocate Boniface Mwabukusi declared, “I am a lion leading a pride of lions, and Tanzanians will begin to see the presence of this society,” and outlined his goals:
1. Executing TLS duties and making relevance to society since the TLS has a duty to citizens, the government, members, and the rule of law with the separation of powers within the state pillars.
2. Fostering unity in the legal profession.
3. Reminding the public that countries are invaded economically; it is TLS’s duty to lead Tanzanians to understand the legal truth of international contracts and policies we engage in.
