Top govt leaders to grace Kizimkazi festival 2024

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan will be among top government leaders to officiate several functions at the Kizimkazi festival 2024, which is scheduled to start on 18th August this year.

Unveiling the programme to journalists at a press conference held in Zanzibar, the Kizimkazi festival committee chairman Mahfoudh Said Omar, said that the launch of multiple development projects and entertainments will feature the weeklong 2024 festivities.

Kizimkazi festival 2024 slogan “Mitano kwa mama Samia, Neema kwa Watanzania.”

“This year’s festival (also known as Samia festival) is expected to attract more people. We expect to have artists to entertain (old, and modern Taarab; private and institutions to showcase products and services they offer; Small and Medium Enterprises and entrepreneurs training,” Mr Omar said.

He explained that people who will visit the venues for Kizimkazi festival will be entertained with a football match between Simba and Yanga and others involving small football teams in Unguja South Region and fitness jogging.

Mr Omar said “We feel happy to be the village which produced the first female vice president and the first female president of the union government. We invite our brothers and sisters from the mainland for the celebrations.”

The festival organising committee secretary Mr Hamid Abdulhamid Khamis noted the climax of the 2024 Kizimkazi festival will be on August 25 and President Samia is expected to grace the closing event.

He said before the event, a total of 500 young people will be trained or empowered with knowledge concerning Agriculture, fishing, entrepreneurship art and tourism, “Each group will have 100 young people to be trained.”

“We will have a massive prayer on August 16th, 2024 for Mama Samia and other leaders and the following day we will have jogging to be graced by Zanzibar President Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi.

We will also have an exhibition of some wild animals to be brought from Tanzania mainland.

The festival 2024 will also include Bonanza, night of ‘Singeli’ performance, dhow race, traditional dance from Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, tag-of-war competition (pulling of rope) and the demonstration of safe cooking will also take place.”

Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) Director General Ephraim Mafuru informed journalists that his organisation in collaboration with Zanzibar Tourism Commission (ZTC) are organising a night of culture to showcase different tourism attraction sites and things, along with training of youths about utilising the opportunities in tourism sector.
