TRC explains reasons for SGR train delay

DAR ES SALAAM: The Tanzania Railways Corporation (TRC) has issued an apology to passengers after an approximately two-hour delay of its Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train, which was traveling from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, due to an electrical fault.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Corporation said that the fault occurred between Kilosa and Kidete stations in Morogoro on July 30, 2024.

TRC suggested that the fault was likely caused by animals, such as monkeys or birds, which came into contact with the overhead catenary system that supplies power to the train.

The disruption led to a power outage at Godegode Substation No. 7 at around 4:20 PM.

However, TRC technicians were able to resolve the issue and restore power by 6:30 PM, allowing the train to resume its journey to Dodoma.
