Trio carries Tanzania’s hopes at Uganda Pros Golf Open

ENTEBBE, UGANDA: TANZANIAN golfers made a promising start at the 2024 Uganda Professional Open Golf Championship held at Entebbe Golf Club on Wednesday.

Elisante Lembris (pictured) of Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), Isaac Wanyeche from Kilimanjaro Golf Club and Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club’s Salum Dilunga all performed well in the first round of the tournament, which features over 120 pros from 11 African countries.

Lembris led the Tanzanian trio with a level-par 71, placing him in a tie for 8th position.

However, he is seven shots behind the first-round leader, Dayne Moore of Zam bia, who carded a 7-under 64.

Wanyeche and Dilunga shot 76 and 77, respectively, placing them tied at 47th and 61st.

Other Tanzanian players, including Fadhil Nkya and Rajab Iddi from DGC and Nuru Mollel from AGC, faced a challenging day.

Nkya and Iddi both carded 83, while Mollel shot 81.

With only half of the field advancing, the Tanzanian golfers need to improve significantly to make the cut.
