TZ welcomes 26 newly certified boxing referees

DAR ES SALAAM: TWENTY-SIX referees and judges from Tanzania have completed international training and earned their stars as recognised world officials.
This training took place at the Police College in Dar es Salaam recently and was organised by the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The programme featured 39 participants, including 29 from Tanzania, eight from Kenya, one from Uganda and one from Namibia.
The training was overseen by notable instructors: Sadie Duffy from Ireland, Chairperson of the IBA Referees and Judges Committee, and Godavarisingh Rajcoomar from Mauritius, Chairperson of the African Boxing Federation (AFBC) Referees and Judges Committee.

Lukelo Willilo, president of the Boxing Federation of Tanzania, highlighted the historic significance of this achievement.
“Developing 26 referees and judges to receive international certification is unprecedented for us,” he stated.
He expressed pride in opening global opportunities for Tanzanian officials, emphasising the federation’s on-going commitment to elevating the sport.
With this latest training, Tanzania now has a total of 27 internationally recognised referees and judges, showcasing the country’s growing prominence in the boxing arena.
“This achievement reflects the federation’s dedication to enhancing the standards of boxing and preparing officials for major competitions both in Africa and worldwide,” Willilo noted.
