UCSAF, MIF donate IT equipment to schools in Zanzibar

ZANZIBAR: THE Universal Communication Services Access Fund (UCSAF) in collaboration with the Women’s Initiatives Foundation (MIF) from Zanzibar have provided Information and Technology (IT) equipment to four secondary schools in the islands worth more than 315m/-.

The equipment provided are 78 computers, three projectors, three printers, six cameras, sixty chairs as well as repaired computer laboratories and installation of the internet infrastructure with the aim of enabling public school students to learn and use these devices at an early stage.

This was revealed recently by the UCSAF Chief Executive, Ms Justina Mashiba, during the launch of the IT classes and equipment as part of the Kizimkazi Festival.

“We are implementing the project with the aim of enabling public school students to learn and use these devices at an early stage in order to promote the use of IT devices and later to increase experts in the field which will help the country in industrial development,” said Ms Mashiba.

Ms Mashiba said that so far, the renovation of three computer laboratories and the installation of internet infrastructure in the schools has been completed in Kizimkazi Dimbani Secondary, Kizimkazi Secondary Shehia of Mkunguni and John Magufuli in Central.

In the Fiscal Year 2022/23, the government through UCSAF delivered IT equipment to 300 public schools, an average of five computers for each school, one projector and one printer.

The equipment continues to be distributed in various public schools in the country in collaboration with the Tanzania Posts Corporation (TPC).

The activity was carried out through a project to connect schools with the Internet as well as providing IT equipment to government schools.
