Uganda claim inaugural Africa Women’s Cup title in Arusha

ARUSHA: AFTER two thrilling days of intense competition in Arusha, Uganda emerged as the inaugural champions of the 2024 Africa Women’s Cup, besting eight other nations, including hosts Tanzania.

The Ugandan women’s team claimed victory by defeating the host country Tanzania 6-1 in the final match held over the weekend.

The Africa Women’s Cup, organised by the Homeless World Cup, is a unique form of soccer played in cubicles and features eight players, with four on each side of the game.

The event took place at the Arusha International Conference Centre (AICC) grounds in the Kijenge suburb.

This year’s tournament was coordinated by the Future Stars Academy (FSA) of Arusha, and it was announced that next year’s event will be hosted by Kenya in Nairobi.

Reflecting on the matches hosted in Tanzania, the organisers described the weekend as a fantastic and lively affair, with enthusiastic and vocal crowds. They acknowledged that all eight participating teams represented their respective countries with pride.

The Chief Operating Officer for the Homeless World Cup Foundation, James McMeekin, emphasised the Foundation’s commitment to growing the women’s game in Africa and globally, with a focus on supporting those in need.
