VP demands speedy Malagarasi-Uvinza road execution

KIGOMA: VICE-PRESIDENT Dr Philip Mpango has directed the Ministry of Works to ensure the construction of the Malagarasi-Uvinza tarmac road stretching 51.1 Kilometres is completed by March 2025 as planned.
Dr Mpango made the directive on Monday after inspecting the progress of the road construction during his working visit to Kigoma Region.
He urged leaders and executives in charge to ensure they effectively manage the road’s construction to enable citizens continue with their daily activities of nation-building when it is completed.
Moreover, he said that the road is an important economic link between Tanzania and neighbouring countries by enabling people to conduct cross border businesses.
Dr Mpango said that action must be taken against executives who will delay its construction.

In a related development, he urged Ministry of Work and contractor to ensure they quickly work by observing standard in this season, so that the road can be completed before the rainy season.
Similarly, the Vice-President inspected the progress of the construction of the 132 Kv power cooling station at Nguruka Village, Uvinza District in the region.
He commended the Ministry of Energy on the development of the facility’s construction, which has reached 95 per cent.

He said that the government intends to open Kigoma Region to have access to electricity and become more attractive to investors.
Dr Mpango said the region will be included in the national grid by the end of September as promised by the Ministry of Energy and citizens will get opportunity of participating in development activities.
He also instructed the Ministry of Energy to supervise Igamba power project in Uvinza District, so that it can be completed on time for the region to get sufficient electricity.
On the other hand, the VP ordered the leadership of Kigoma Region to quickly solve the problem of livestock, especially cattle encroaching into farms in Uvinza District, saying it is important for the pastoralists to practice better land use by using the allocated grazing area and start modern livestock keeping to avoid conflicts within the community.
He also called on the citizens to increase efforts to protect environment including planting trees and preventing the burning of forests.
