WaterAid enhances WASH infrastructure in Hanang District

MANYARA: WATERAID Tanzania has handed over to the government a project for the improvement of water infrastructure and sanitation services in Hanang District, Manyara Region, which is expected to reach at least 20,036 beneficiaries.

This was said yesterday by WaterAid Tanzania Country Director Anna Mzinga, during the handover ceremony of WASH improvement project in Bashang and Laghanga villages located in Hanang District supported by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Mzinga said that in September 2023, they successfully launched the implementation of the project in Katesh Town during a stakeholders’ meeting and to date it has been completed, with residents starting to benefit from it.

She also said that during the meeting, many things were presented and discussed. The main issue remaining for them as an institution was a pledge of cooperation in execution, leadership consultation advice and safety in implementing the project.

“We acknowledge receiving great cooperation from the government and all experts during the implementation of the project and so far, it has been successfully completed by 100 per cent for all three institutions targeted by this project, including improved toilet infrastructure, clean water distribution infrastructure, personal and institutional hygiene infrastructure and community education for the users of the infrastructure,” she said.

She said WaterAid launched its new global strategy in 2022 and the East African Country programs including Tanzania developed and launched their strategies in 2023 and will cover through the year 2028.

“Our first aim under this strategy focuses on supporting the attainment of sustainable inclusive and safe WASH services in the Hanang District area for wider change while the second aim focuses on prioritising WASH across the health sector to improve public health,” she said.

Ms Kaguara said that WaterAid with support from donors like the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will continue to work in Hanang to support the government initiatives that aim at ensuring that everyone in this district has sustainable inclusive and safe WASH services.

Collectively with other stakeholders and the communities, we believe that this goal will be achieved.
