WFP boss pledges support for vulnerable communities

DODOMA: THE new Country Representative of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Mr Ronald Tran Ba Huy, has expressed commitment to further supporting Tanzania’s government in ensuring that the most vulnerable communities have access to nutritious food.
Mr Tran Ba Huy also said the WFP is committed to empowering stallholder farmers and investing in climate adaptation and emergency preparedness.
“We also believe in collaborating to further enhance Tanzania’s potential to become a regional hub for food production and logistics,” he added.
He made the statement over the weekend when the WFP Tanzania received him as he assumed his new roles in the country.

Mr Tran Ba Huy officially presented credentials to the government on Thursday last week.
Credentials were received by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mr Dennis Londo.
Mr Tran Ba Huy’s journey with WFP began in 2016 when he served in Haiti as the Country Director and Representative.
In Haiti, Mr Tran Ba Huy managed the emergency response to Hurricane Matthew and helped the country’s government to develop the National Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Strategy for Food Security and Nutrition.
In 2019, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Research, Assessment and Monitoring Division at WFP’s Headquarters in Rome, where he notably led the development of WFP’s Strategic Plan for 2022–2026.
