Why President Samia appointed more Law Lords

DAR ES SALAAM, State House: President Samia Suluhu Hassan appointed more judges to the High Court as a strategy of capacitating the judiciary to be in the position of addressing various challenges including case backlog and trial delay.

Recently, the Head of State appointed 20 judges of the High Court to boost the efficiency.

The law lords took oaths of office before the President at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Thursday morning.

“The world is experiencing drastic changes in the spheres of economic and political…but the courts and the Parliament are ought to cope with those changes too.

“We are embarking on strengthening legal services to ensure that we reach out to more citizens. There are about seven regions where we are implementing projects of High Courts,” she said.

Speaking immediately after administering oaths of the newly appointed justices, President Samia reminded them of mainstream Reconciliation, Resilience, Reform and Rebuild (4R) philosophy when discharging their duties.

She advised the judges to go through the 4R philosophy thoroughly for them to understand how each ‘R’ can be applied.

Meanwhile, President Samia tasked the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Ambassador Stephen Mbudi to deal with all matters regarding the region for the betterment of Tanzania.
