Work closely with INEC, election officials urged

MARA: ELECTION officials in Mara, Simiyu and Manyara regions have been urged to work closely with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other election stakeholders to ensure a successful update of the Permanent Voters’ Register (PVR) in their regions.

This call to action was made by the INEC Chairperson, Court of Appeal Judge Jacobs Mwambegele, during the opening of training sessions for the PVR update for regional and council-level officials in Musoma, Mara Region on Monday.

Judge Mwambegele stressed the importance of adherence to the Commission’s directives, emphasising the need for seamless cooperation among officials to ensure an efficient updating process.

“I urge you to maintain close cooperation with the Commission at all times while performing your duties. If you need any clarification or guidance, please do not hesitate to contact the commission,” Judge Mwambegele stated.
Similarly, Court of Appeal Judge (Retired) Mbarouk Salim Mbarouk, Deputy Chairperson of INEC, addressed similar training sessions in Simiyu Region. He called on officials to collaborate with political party agents, voter education organisations and process observers.

In Manyara Region, training for regional-level election officials was inaugurated by High Court Judge Asina Omari. Judge Omari urged participants to focus on the training to effectively train assistant registration officers at the ward level.

“This training aims to enhance your ability to train assistant registration officers at the ward level, who will, in turn, train biometric equipment operators and assistant clerks responsible for registering voters at polling stations,” emphasised Judge Omari.

The training marks the beginning of the fourth round of the PVR upgrading process. This phase includes Mara and Simiyu regions, as well as selected councils in Manyara Region—Babati Town Council and the District Councils of Babati, Hanang and Mbulu.

The updating process is scheduled to run from September 4, this year to September 10, of this year, with centres open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
