Yanga eye Africa’s top five

DAR ES SALAAM: YOUNG Africans Head Coach Miguel Gamondi has set a bold goal for the upcoming season which is to position the club among the top five teams in Africa and also surpass their previous ambitions in the CAF Champions League (CAF CL).
The Argentine coach made the remarks following Yanga’s impressive 4-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs in the Toyota Cup final, held at Toyota Stadium in South Africa over the weekend.
The match concluded Yanga’s three pre-season friendlies in South Africa, where they secured victories in two of the games, defeating TS Galaxy 1-0 and Kaizer Chiefs 4-0.
Their only loss came against German Bundesliga side FC Augsburg, who edged them 2-1 despite a consolation goal from new striker Jean Baleke.
“Our goal for next season is to place Yanga among the top five clubs on the continent,” Gamondi said.
“We also aim to retain our Premier League title and advance as far as possible in the Champions League.
With our experienced players, passionate supporters and solid preparation, we are confident in achieving these targets.”
Reflecting on the recent Toyota Cup triumph, Gamondi praised his team’s performance and highlighted the progress of the new signings.

“The new players have shown great potential. We’ve assembled a strong squad, but there is still room for improvements. We need to keep working hard,” he added.
On his part Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi acknowledged the lessons learned from the defeat and plans to address the team’s shortcomings.
“I’m not disappointed with today’s performance as I’m still assessing the team. We’re considering additional recruits to strengthen the squad,” Nabi stated.
The match against his former club marked Nabi’s first home defeat since he began his three-year tenure with the South African club.
Meanwhile the Jangwani street-based club has unveiled that Yanga will play against Zambian champions Red Arrows at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on August 4, as part of the annual Yanga Week celebrations.
The club’s spokesperson Haji Manara announced this fixture yesterday that Yanga will face the recently crowned CECAFA 2024 Kagame Dar Port Red Arrows in the climax day of ‘Mwananchi Week’ celebrations and urged fans to fill the stadium to support their club.
Additionally, Yanga has extended the contract of Media and Communication Manager Ally Kamwe for another two years.
Kamwe’s initial contract had expired and although he initially tendered his resignation, he ultimately decided to continue with the club
