Zanzibar ensures cheaper cooking gas supply

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBARIS have been assured of a steady supply of cheaper cooking gas, thanks to significant investments in storage facilities, the House of Representatives was informed.

Deputy Minister of Water, Energy, and Minerals Zawadi Nassor announced that the substantial investment by ORYX company at Mangapwani has enabled the country to directly import and store up to 1,410 tonnes of gas through Mangapwani port.

In response to a question from Mwanakwerekwe Legislator Ameir Abdalla Ameir about the benefits of the new gas facility, the deputy minister confirmed the availability of gas in the country and noted that prices are already decreasing.

She reported that the price of a six-kilogramme cylinder has fallen from 25,000/- to 24,000/-, while the price of a 15-kilogramme cylinder has dropped from 60,000/- to 58,000/-. The deputy minister also promised further price reductions as gas imports continue to increase.
