Zanzibar set to launch Tourist Insurance Services in September

ZANZIBAR: The Zanzibar Insurance Corporation (ZIC) is gearing up to introduce tourist insurance services in early September 2024.

This initiative aims to provide comprehensive coverage for tourists visiting the island, including emergency medical assistance, support in case of lost passports, and repatriation of remains in the unfortunate event of death.

During the meeting held on Thursday the Minister of State (President’s Office) Finance and Planning, Dr. Saada Mkuya Salum, emphasized the necessity of this service.

She pointed out that the government currently bears substantial costs for medical care for tourists who encounter health issues, costs that could be mitigated through insurance.

The meeting, attended by various tourism stakeholders, focused on refining the new insurance service to ensure it meets the needs of tourists and supports the government’s goal of making Zanzibar a safe and secure destination.

Acting Managing Director of ZIC, Mr. Jape Ussi Khamis, stressed on the importance of collaboration to achieve the aim of this service .

This new insurance service is part of a broader strategy to enhance the tourist experience in Zanzibar, ensuring that visitors have access to necessary support in unexpected situations.
